Mesh 2.0 - DevShop - The evolutive project managment Tool
I can't believe that 70% of software projects fail. It's embarrassing. Something is fundamentally broken here. Left to their own devices, people have a way of over-complicating things. It really doesn't have to be that hard. The trick is knowing what to look for and what key factors to manage. The rest is noise.
What kind of product is this?Devshop's flagship product is in the category of project management tools. That's a pretty broad category though. More specifically, the focus is on successful management of software projects - that is, avoiding the big traps that software projects often run into.
There are a lot of tools out there calling themselves project management tools. Let's be clear about Devshop's definition of what a project management tool is, or rather, what is not:
- Not just a Gantt chart: A Gantt chart is one possible way to visualize a project at a glance. It's a good tool for quickly checking to see if things are lined up properly, in very broad strokes. Certainly nice to have in your toolkit, but not the be-all-end-all of project management. And yes, we've got one (3 actually, for different purposes).
- Not just a calendar: Calendars are familiar and therefore comfortable. Not bad for a couple of milestones, but not much use for teams of people working on a long list of tasks. We don't have one now, may in the future.
- Not just a to-do list: Managing isn't just about writing "things to do" down so you don't forget. Nor is it just about prioritizing them and adding up the number of days. Task lists are certainly important, but not the whole story either.
- Requirements Management
- Risk-Based Scheduling
- What Happened?!" Analysis
